Leukemia survivor, blogger, speaker

When I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on January 10, 2013 after never being sick in my life (besides a minor cold) and no family history of the disease, I felt like I was completely alone. Adult ALL has low survival statistics and I scoured the web for other survivors or someone who had a similar story, but every blog I came across was being managed by a loved one because the blogger had passed.

After some encouragement from my mother, I started this blog in hopes that there was someone else out there like me who felt like they were alone. I wanted to be a beacon of hope – you can survive this. What began as an inside look at my journey became therapy for me and inspiration to others.

Why Mel-Strong? I got the name from my sister/best friend/twin Lynna. My family and close friends call me “Mel” for short and the second part is prophetic in a sense because even when I don’t think I’m strong enough to continue going through this process, I realize that His strength is made perfect in our weakness (2 Cor. 12:9-10). I’m not sure what the future holds, but I know I did not go through all of this  for me to keep it to myself. So, I hope that by sharing my experiences, you will truly be blessed, inspired, share with others who may need some encouragement, and visit often. God bless!
